European Gem Symposium attracts global audience

Berne, Switzerland--The Swiss Gemmological Society hosted the third European Gemmological Symposium in Berne, Switzerland, from June 5-7.

The event, which attracted gemologists worldwide, was filled with a wide range of presentations courtesy of gem-lab specialists.

Keynote speakers Martin Rapaport, chairman of the Rapaport Group, and renowned diamond cutter Sir Gabriel S. "Gab" Tolkowsky, along with a number of other industry authorities, presented a broad range of topics on diamonds, colored gemstones, pearls and the overall jewelry trade.

The first prize for the best scientific poster was awarded to Dr. Leo Klemm and Pierre Hardy, both from the Gubelin Gem Lab, for their contribution on the Determination of Tourmaline Species by Advanced Chemical Analysis.
