GIA names David Tearle new CFO

David Tearle has replaced Bob Buscher as the Gemogical Institute of America's new chief financial officer.

Carlsbad, Calif.--The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has named David Tearle as its new vice president and chief financial officer.

The appointment became effective Sept. 14.

Tearle, an executive whose career spans more than 15 years in senior financial management for multinational companies, replaces Bob Buscher, a 13-year GIA veteran. Buscher will be returning to the for-profit business arena.

Tearle's global expertise includes business and manufacturing operations, business development, international reporting, and financial control and planning.

Most recently, he co-founded a privately held, international pharmaceutical company where he served as CFO. Prior to that, he worked with Valeant Pharmaceuticals as vice president of operations finance, CFO--global marketing and supply. At Valeant, he was responsible for reorganizing the company's marketing network and working on the sale of manufacturing sites. He also had financial responsibility for all global manufacturing and supply, and directed financial control for 15 manufacturing sites in 12 countries.

Prior to his work in the pharmaceutical sector, Tearle spent 12 years in public accounting for one of the world's top firms.

Originally from the United Kingdom, Tearle earned a bachelor's degree with honors in commerce from Birmingham University. He lives in Laguna Niguel, Calif.
