Los Angeles-based Charles Carmona has been accepted as a member of the Pacific Council on International Policy.

Los Angeles--Gemologist Charles I. Carmona is the newest member of the Pacific Council on International Policy, an international affairs organization focused on issues that affect the West Coast specifically.

According to a news release, the Los Angeles-based Carmona, who serves as president of Guild Laboratories Inc., was nominated and accepted to the council due to his 30-plus years' experience in the international gemstone trade.

Most recently, Carmona served as a consultant for the World Bank, working on a project developing the infrastructure for a wholesale gemstone industry in Madagascar.

"We are very pleased to welcome Mr. Carmona and his unique perspectives on the issues of resources management in the developing world, and look forward to the contributions that he can make to our discussion," Pacific Council President and Chief Executive Officer Dr. Jerrold D. Green said in the release.

The council is a non-partisan organization founded in 1995 in partnership with the Council on Foreign Relations and the University of Southern California.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Warren Christopher and KKR Senior Advisor John E. Bryson co-chair the Council.

According to the release, membership is very selective and limited to thought and action leaders in international affairs, including professionals engaged in business with international reach, experts in international policy and civic and political leaders.
