Weston Jewelers brings snow to sunny Florida

Weston, Fla.--Snow in southern Florida is about as common a sight as is beach wear in Alaska, but retail jeweler Weston Jewelers is making it happen this year for a children's hospital, creating an outdoor "Winter Wonderland" with real snow.

The event will take place today at the retailer's store in Weston, Fla., and guests will include children whose lives have been touched by Joe Dimaggio's Children's Hospital and Conine's Clubhouse, a residence situated close to the hospital and designed to make it easier for parents to be near their child while he or she is being cared for.

Guests will get a chance to throw snowballs, ride an inflatable sled, sip hot chocolate, enjoy snacks and meet Lotsy the Clown and Bobby the Balloon Guy.

"Not only did we want to do an event to financially help the children, but we wanted to put a smile on the faces of the kids themselves," Weston Jewelers Vice President of Marketing Paul Slutsky said in a media release.

Later this evening, Weston Jewelers will hold a holiday party featuring a benefit auction. Companies that have contributed toward the auction include A. Link, Aaron Basha, Baume and Mercier, Bedat, Charriol, Eddie Levian, Gregg Ruth, IWC, Leslie Greene, Michele, Nanis, Roberto Coin, Scott Kay and TW Steel. Auction proceeds will go to the children's hospital and clubhouse, with a percentage of all sales made this evening to also benefit the charity.
