Dallas—The first World of Gems Conference, held in Chicago from Sept. 13-14, had a strong debut, with industry experts educating attendees on current issues in the jewelry trade, according to co-hosts Gemworld International and the AGTA Gemological Testing Center (GTC).

More than 150 people attended the conference from countries such as Colombia, Germany and the United Kingdom.

The conference opened each day with a keynote presentation by noted gemologist John Koivula from the Gemological Institute of America (GIA). Dr. Lore Kiefert of the AGTA GTC, Christopher Smith of the American Gemological Laboratories and Dr. Jim Shigley of the GIA GTL Laboratory provided updates.

Other featured speakers included Eric Braunwart, Robert Kane, Gina Latendresse, Ron Ringsrud, Stuart Robertson, Gary Roskin and Paul Shannon.

"We were very pleased by the attendance and the information that was shared at the conference," Gemworld International Chief Executive Officer Richard B. Drucker said in a media release. "I have received a tremendous outpouring of positive feedback from attendees about the relevance of the information to their business and the great networking with their peers."

A book is being compiled that recaps the topics discussed at the conference. It will be priced at $39.95 and will be published in early November.

Orders are being taken at GemWorld International at (847) 657-0555 or online at WorldofGemsConference.com.
