AGTA appoints search committee for exec director

Dallas—American Gem Trade Association (AGTA) President Rick Krementz has appointed a search committee to consider candidates to lead the colored-gemstone association.

The new executive director will replace Douglas Hucker, who resigned as the chief executive officer of AGTA two weeks ago but is slated to stay on for six months in an advisory capacity.

The chairman of the search committee is Omi Nagpal of Omi Gems. Other members of the committee are Barbara Lawrence of Boston Gems and Findings, Kambiz Sabouri of Gem 2000, Joe Orlando of Stuller and Sampat Poddar of Byrex Gems. The committee is compiling a new job description for the position.

"We are excited about the new vision and brand that our board of directors has adopted," Nagpal said in a statement. "We expect our search to define the individual who can understand the complexities of our association and the dynamic growth that is anticipated."
