IGI expands educational offerings in Middle East

Dubai, United Arab Emirates—The International Gemological Institute (IGI) will be strengthening its already-firm presence in the Middle East by expanding program offerings at its school in Dubai as well as offering courses in Kuwait and Saudi Arabia.

The IGI first entered the Middle East in 1997, and in the past 10 years since opening its School of Gemology in Dubai, more than 1,000 students have completed polished-diamond, rough-diamond and colored-stone courses.

Due to the school's success, the IGI is now expanding its offerings in Dubai to include professional jewelry-design programs and retail seminars for sales professionals.

The IGI also recently conducted its first polished-diamond grading course in Kuwait, and plans to offer additional classes there and in Saudi Arabia in the near future.

"The UAE [United Arab Emirates] is one of the fastest-growing diamond markets in the world, along with China, Hong Kong and India, and is currently one of the fastest-growing markets for IGI worldwide," IGI Chief Executive Officer Roland Lorié said in a statement. "We look forward to expanding our course offerings in Dubai and Kuwait to further gemological education throughout the Middle East."

In addition to the IGI's School of Gemology in Dubai, the institute also has gemological schools in Belgium, Canada, India and Italy.
