Giant, 1.8kg ruby on display in Hanoi

The second-largest gemstone found in Vietnam—a 9,000-carat ruby—is on display at the Exhibition on Gemstones and Gemstone Products.

The ruby, named Than Chau Bao Vat (Than Chau's Treasure), is worth several million dollars. Other natural and cut rubies, sapphires, spinels, peridots, tourmalines, quartz and opals are included in the exhibit held at Hanoi's Melia Hotel.

The exhibit marks the 20th anniversary of the discovery of the first gemstone mine in Vietnam. It is also the 10th anniversary of the founding company and exhibit organizer, Than Chau Ngoc Viet Gemstones and Jewelry Company Ltd.
