Macau to host 2009 CIBJO Congress
July 21, 2008
Milan, Italy—The 2009 CIBJO Congress will be held from March 1-4, 2009, in
Macau, CIBJO President Dr. Gaetano Cavalieri announced on Monday.
Macau, the former Portuguese colony, is now a Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China, like neighboring Hong Kong.
Cavalieri made the announcement following a decision made during a meeting of CIBJO's President's Council held earlier this month in Antwerp, Belgium.
The main host of the 2009 CIBJO Congress will be MJS Trade Fairs (Macau) Ltd., the organizers of the Macau International Jewellery and Watch Fair. The second edition of the fair will begin just prior to the CIBJO Congress, from Feb. 28 to March 3, at the Venetian Macao hotel, which will also double as the Congress venue.
In addition, the organizers are also launching the first Macao de Luxe event in the Asia Pacific Region, an exclusive jewelry and watch fair that aims to become the Asian equivalent of the Couture show in the United States.
Cavalieri, who was a keynote speaker at the first edition of the 2007 Macau International Jewellery and Watch Fair, said he was very pleased with the offer made by MJS.
"The show organizers have the support of all major Macau governmental and semi-governmental organizations that cover investment and export promotion as well as international trade relations and business development. Macau is an absolutely exciting venue," Cavalieri said in a media release.
MJS Director Sunny Liu said he and his colleagues are elated at the prospect of bringing the leadership of the world jewelry industry and trade under one roof at the Venetian Macao.
