Dubai, United Arab Emirates—Damas Jewellery has signed an exclusive partnership with the International Diamond Laboratories (IDL) to market its branded "Damas Cut" with certificates from the new government-supported lab.

The Damas Cut is a new, 77-facet round fancy-cut diamond, which was developed to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the company.

Damas operates more than 300 jewelry outlets in India, the Middle East and the Persian Gulf, and is the largest jewelry retailer in the Middle East. The move confirms IDL as a lab that will focus on the needs of jewelers in the Middle Eastern and Asian markets.

"The ground-breaking new technology of IDL answers the market needs for accurate and consistent diamond grading. As a Dubai-government initiative, we are convinced that IDL certificates will give trust to consumers across the Middle East," Damas Managing Director Tawhid Abdullah said in a statement.

IDL Chief Executive Officer Peter Meeus said he was pleased to work with Damas.

"As a retailer-oriented diamond lab, IDL aims [to offer] added value to the retailer who ultimately sells the diamond," he said.
