IDI making first Indian trade show appearance

Growing Indian jewelry market encourages Israeli diamond companies to explore opportunities

Ramat Gan, Israel—In a continuation of what has been termed the "Year of India," the Israeli diamond industry is participating for the first time in the India International Jewelry Show (IIJS).

A total of 24 Israeli diamond manufacturers and exporters are set to exhibit their loose diamonds and diamond jewelry collections in the Israeli Diamond Industry Pavilion at IIJS, slated for Aug. 7-11 in Mumbai.

The Israel Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) organized the pavilion.

During the Year of India, the IDI is encouraging Israeli companies to explore business opportunities in the growing Indian market.

IDI Chairman and Israeli Diamond Manufacturers Association President Moti Ganz said India is a market with huge potential and one that has a long tradition of creating and buying jewelry.

"We believe that as India continues to develop industrially and economically, the consumer market for diamond jewelry will show huge expansion. We look forward to cooperation with the very developed Indian diamond industry for the benefit of all," he said.

IDI Managing Director Eli Avidar said this will be the IDI's first foray into the Indian market and he feels it will be a success.

"I am very confident that we will see a lot of interest in our goods," he said. "We feel that we can complement the Indian industry, rather than compete, and we hope to solidify our ties and make new connections in this industry."

IDI's image booth, 6W092, which is located in the pavilion, will provide potential buyers with information about the Israeli diamond industry and the advantages of doing business with Israel, and will register industry members for the Israeli Diamond Industry Portal site.
