Las Vegas—In less than a year, Journey Diamond Jewelry is off to an impressive start. Celebrating that success, the Diamond Promotion Service (DPS) announced the winners of the Journey Diamond Jewelry Design Competition at the JCK Las Vegas show on Friday.

"In a few short months, with the help of everyone in this room, we've got a billion-dollar category," DPS senior partner and director of industry strategy Claudia Rose said during the awards presentation.

The contest was announced in April and was open to U.S. sightholders, diamond manufacturers and designers. They were charged with creating new and exciting Journey designs with the following guidelines:

* Designs must include four or more diamonds in a graduated pattern from smallest to largest to symbolize how love grows stronger over time.
* Only natural, non-treated diamonds can be used.
* Rough or uncut diamonds cannot be used.
* Colored diamonds or other colored gemstones cannot be used.

More than 40 entrants submitted over 200 designs. The winners of the contest are: Susan Tobias, The Aaron Group, "Best in Show"; Sal Praschnik, "Design Diva"; Susan Tobias and JBDM, "Instant Classics"; Jacqueline Muir, Daisy Alvarez and Richard Palmero, "Judges' Favorites"; Elegant Collection/A Jasani Co., "Distinctively Journey"; and Daniel K, "Red Carpet." Designs from Amadena, Diaco, Hearts On Fire, MJJ Brilliant, Prestige and Richard Palermo received honorable mention.

The judging panel included Fortunoff Executive Vice President of Merchandising Esther Fortunoff, the Jewelry Information Center's Amanda Gizzi, Modern Jeweler Editor in Chief Cheryl Kremkow, JCK Fashion Editor Carrie Soucy, OK! magazine's Fashion Director Susannah Cahn and America's Next Top Model judge and celebrity stylist Nole Marin.

The winning designs will be on display at the DPS booth (No. 11031) during the JCK show, which concludes tomorrow.

Traffic at the trade show was brisk over the first two days, with organizers expecting more than 21,000 retailers to browse and shop among 3,400 exhibitors from 22 countries.
