Antwerp, Belgium—The Antwerp World Diamond Centre (AWDC) has become the first member of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses' (WFDB) Mark Associate Member program.

The WFDB Mark is a symbol intended to guarantee that a diamond company or organization that displays it acts with integrity in all business dealings. It can be displayed by diamantaires who belong to one of the 26 diamonds bourses worldwide that are affiliated with the WFDB and choose to join the program.

Industry organizations and a range of service providers to the diamond and gem business also have the opportunity to participate in the program.

According to a media release from the WFDB, AWDC Chief Executive Officer Freddy Hanard wrote a letter to WFDB Secretary General Michael Vaughn stating that he recognizes the importance of the mark, which "serves to enhance the reputation of the diamond business community at large, and specifically to spread the word about the WFDB as the diamond trade's chief guardian of the diamond trade's business practices."

Hanard also confirmed in his letter that the AWDC made a substantial contribution to the WFDB Mark program.

"We hope these funds will help increase and accelerate the spread of the WFDB Mark in the diamond supply pipeline and that the WFDB Mark will become the ultimate diamond mark of the international diamond trade," he said. "The AWDC, as the first WFDB Mark Associate Member, will carry the WFDB Mark proudly!"
