GCAL offers consumer-focused initiatives

Gem lab to provide marketing, training, online programs

New York—Gem Certification and Assurance Lab (GCAL) is launching three new services to spark sales opportunities for members.

First, the company is offering one-on-one consultations with Marketing Manager Linda Osofsky, who will educate retailers on how in-store training, the Certified Diamond Exchange or specific marketing collateral can drive diamond-buying consumers into stores. She can be reached at (646) 871-4036 or losofsky@collectors.com.

Next, GCAL has created a new training manual and video. The manual offers tips on how to sell as well as GCAL features and benefits. The video, a GCAL exclusive, provides a journey through the company's state-of-the-art lab. Both products are free of charge to GCAL customers, and the video is also offered as a loop to run in-store.

Launching late this summer, GCAL will offer DiamondID.com, a new consumer-focused Web site that will promote GCAL as the premiere independent certification authority, merging the idea of marking a diamond with an identification number along with the optical fingerprint "Gemprint" and then registering it to a specific consumer.

The site will include a DiamondID registry (over a half million diamonds currently registered) based on the Gemprint and DID international database, allowing customers peace of mind that their stone is further protected from switching and that it has a greater chance of recovery if lost or stolen.

The site will also feature a printable Diamond Buying Guide that will answer the most important consumer questions and explain the concept of a diamond's visual signature through both basic and in-depth Four C's education.

The Gem Certification and Assurance Lab is a subsidiary of Collectors Universe Inc. that provides guaranteed diamond certification with bundled services including Gemprint and direct light-performance analysis as well as SourceVeritas and Ideal Cut certificates. It is recognized as the first U.S. diamond-grading lab to earn ISO 17025:2005 accreditation, meaning that it conforms to recognized international standards for accurate and reliable grading.
