AGS Labs unveils new diamond-grading document

Las Vegas—The American Gemological Society (AGS) Laboratories unveiled a new diamond-grading document, the trademarked Diamond Quality Analysis (DQA), at the JCK Las Vegas show.

The DQA is similar to the trademarked Diamond Quality Document, but comes in a more compact 8.5-by-4.75 format. The DQA will be used to grade diamonds weighing 0.18 carats to 0.99 carats, offering a complete analysis of the stone's cut, color, clarity and carat weight. A laser inscription will be included in the document, but it will not have a plot.

"We've been getting increased demand for the DQA, and we wanted to give our clients additional tools to sell their diamonds," AGS Laboratories Executive Director Peter Yantzer said in a statement. "The DQA adds even more diversity to our product line and is perfect for clients who need a document with a complete cut grade for their smaller diamonds."

The AGS Laboratories, established in 1996, is the only diamond-grading laboratory licensed to use the AGS Performance-Based Cut Grade System, the first-ever cut-grading system for fancy-shaped diamonds. The lab currently issues a cut grade on round-brilliant, princess- and emerald-cut diamonds. Other shapes are due to come in the near future.
