Venus Jewel adds new diamond-clarity grade

Mumbai, India—Diamond Trading Co. sightholder Venus Jewel has added another clarity grade to its in-depth system of diamond grading.

VS2- denotes a stone that is in between VS2 and SI1+ in the Venus Grading System. A diamond with this clarity grade is considered to have clarity that is slightly lower than VS2.

With this addition, Mumbai-based Venus Jewel now has a total of 32 clarity grades in its diamond-grading system.

Venus Jewel partner Rajesh R. Shah said the price difference between a VS2 and a SI1+ clarity diamond are so vast—between 8 percent and 15 percent—that consumers could not buy these stones with confidence.

This new clarity grade helps close the gap.

"With the introduction of the VS2- clarity grade, we foresee the further transparency and clarity thereof being able to dispel customers' apprehensions in making such purchases, which we are positive will further simply their doing business with us," Shah said in a media release.

Back in May, Venus Jewel announced a 47 percent uptick in sales for fiscal year 2007-2008, an increase the company attributed partly to business transparency.

In addition, earlier this year Venus Jewel announced a partnership with the American Gem Society (AGS).

The partnership gives AGS members access to Venus' online diamond inventory and integrated the AGS' Performance Grading Software into the Venus Web site, giving AGS members a chance to see how Venus diamonds stack up on the AGS scale.

AGS members can search for diamonds based on light performance, proportion values and the estimated AGS cut grade, as well as view ASET images of round brilliants, with more shapes to come.
