GCAL to sponsor WDC reception

New York—The Gem Certification and Assurance Lab (GCAL) has announced its sponsorship of the World Diamond Council's (WDC) fifth annual meeting, taking place from May 9-10 at the David Citadel Hotel in Jerusalem, Israel.

GCAL will sponsor the event's welcome cocktail reception on May 9.

The WDC was formed in 2000 to help stop the flow of conflict diamonds through the implementation of the Kimberley Process and the System of Warrantees. The annual meeting brings together government, non-governmental organizations and industry leaders for an open forum to discuss the issues surrounding the eradication of conflict stones. The WDC represents more than 50 organizations worldwide, including mining companies, trade associations, manufacturers and retailers.

GCAL President Don Palmieri said he's honored to be a sponsor of the event.

"WDC's focus on urging social responsibility within the global diamond industry to eliminate conflict diamonds perfectly parallels GCAL's own goals and certificate programs directed at protecting the consumer and giving them complete confidence in the quality and origin of every diamond they purchase," he said in a statement.

He added that the lab is subject to the review and regulations of a publicly traded company and offers the industry's only "Zero Tolerance Consumer Diamond Grading Guarantee" on all of its diamond grading certificates.

The Israeli Diamond Industry will host this year's meeting.
