Ramat Gan, Israel--The meeting of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) slated to take place today in Hong Kong has been postponed due to the ongoing conflict in Israel, the WFDB has announced.

WFDB President Avi Paz said earlier this week that the postponement was "due to the security situation in [Israel] and ensuing developments."

He said he would try to reschedule the meeting as soon as possible.

The 2009 WFDB-Asia Summit Meeting was slated to bring together the leadership of WFDB-affiliated bourses from all over Asia: Bangkok, Thailand; Mumbai, India; Hong Kong; Shanghai, China; Singapore; and Tokyo.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss how the WFDB can better serve its Asian members, assisting them in raising their profiles, making them more competitive and boosting diamond sales in general.

In addition, the meeting was scheduled to include a detailed discussion on the implementation of the WFDB Mark program, the WFDB's Mark of Excellence.

The meeting is inline with Paz's plan to, as president of the WFDB, improve communication and cooperation among member bourses around the world.

Paz took office in May.
