Ramat Gan, Israel—The opening ceremony for the renovated Harry Oppenheimer Diamond Museum will be held on Feb. 11 in conjunction with the start of Israel's Third International Rough Diamond Conference.

Leaders from around the world, including De Beers Group Managing Director Gareth Penny and Diamond Trading Co. (DTC) Managing Director Varda Shine, will attend the grand re-opening ceremony, which is scheduled for 10 a.m.

The museum is located within the Israeli diamond industry complex in Ramat Gan.

Museum designer Eliav Nachlieli said the museum allows visitors to follow the diamond on its journey "from the depths of the earth to the heart of human being."

The permanent exhibition includes artifacts, displays and information presented on graphic panels, and uses video segments to enhance the visitor experience.

A "host" accompanies visitors on a virtual journey, where a variety of experts explain the route the diamond takes until it reaches its final destination.

There are interactive stands at each stage of the tour where visitors can glean more information.

The museum also has a new space for its rotating exhibitions. The first display to appear in this space is scheduled to be the DTC's Shining Light Awards Diamond Design Collection for 2006-2007.

Museum board chairman Shmuel Schnitzer said the renovation of the museum has resulted in the most modern diamond museum in the world.

"I am happy that after more than 20 years, we have literally created a brand-new museum, well suited to the 21st century. We have integrated the latest technology and design elements. This museum will offer an exciting visit for members of the industry, as well as for tourists, students and the general public," he said.

The museum is a subsidiary of the Israel Diamond Institute (IDI).
