Mumbai, India—The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) India Laboratory has announced it will offer free pick-up and delivery services in Mumbai's Opera House district.

Pick-up and delivery will take place through three local shippers: Malca-Amit, B.V.C. Group and Rapaport Shipping Service. The companies will come to GIA customers' offices, pick up a "sealed box" of goods and deliver the box to the GIA lab for servicing. After servicing is completed, the sealed box will be returned to the customer's office via the shipping company.

Customers may also continue to send their stones to Rapaport GIA LabDirect for grading at GIA Laboratory India or other international GIA labs.

GIA Laboratory India currently limits intake from each client to 75 stones per day for grading services. Diamonds from 0.15 carats to 1.99 carats are serviced locally, and diamonds larger than 1.99 carats, diamond submissions that exceed the lab's local capacity, or for services other than Diamond Grading or Diamond Dossier are forwarded to a U.S. lab for servicing.

"We look forward to this next phase in expanding our Mumbai business and will keep the industry informed as to when the GIA India Laboratory is fully operational," Tom Moses, GIA senior vice president for research and laboratory, and Nirupa Bhatt, GIA managing director for the India and Middle East region, said in a media release.
