New York—As conflict diamonds get the full media body slam with the release of Blood Diamond this week, representatives from Global Witness and Amnesty International will head up a press briefing on the issue tomorrow at the Open Society Institute in Manhattan.

Speakers scheduled to participate in the lunch meeting are Charmian Gooch and Alex Yearsley of Global Witness; Amy O'Meara of Amnesty International USA's Business and Human Rights Program; Sorious Samura, an award-winning Sierra Leone documentary filmmaker whose film Cry Freetown showed the atrocities of the country's civil war; and Tom Zoellner, author of The Heartless Stone: A Journey Through the World of Diamonds, Deceit and Desire.

According to a media advisory, the panel is being held because it charges that "The movie has the diamond industry nervous. Worried they'll lose billions in profit, they've launched a multi-million dollar publicity campaign to muddy the issue. Get the whole picture, not just half the story."

The Open Society Institute is located at 400 W. 59th St., between Ninth and 10th Avenues, in the third floor conference room. Interested parties can also listen in via conference call by dialing (877) 707-9632.
