Sightholder to open factory in Namibia

Antwerp, Belgium—Diamond Trading Co. sightholder Dali Diamond, an international group with products and services across the diamond pipeline, has announced plans to open a diamond-polishing factory in Windhoek, Namibia.

The company says the initiative will include a commitment to local recruitment and training.

In a statement, Dali Diamond said the $2.7 million factory will be fully operational by the end of 2007 and will employ about 150 workers by Sept. 2008. The company's long-term plans include a workforce of about 300.

A specialized training program is planned to teach the Namibian workers all aspects of rough-diamond manufacturing.

"Dali is committed to Namibia," Dali Diamond Director Isi Morsel said in the statement. "We will develop the local economy by making sizeable investments in training local workers, bringing new skills to the economy and installing state-of-the-art technology."
