GCAL launches new Web site

March 27, 2007

New York—The Gem Certification and Assurance Lab (GCAL) has announced the launch of a new Web site, Gemfacts.org, which includes a certificate search-and-verification feature, a page detailing the lab's Zero Tolerance Consumer Grading Guarantee and an online video.

"Our key objective with our new Web site is to make information easily available to the diamond-distribution channel, especially to retailers, and to better communicate the unique products and services we offer," GCAL President Donald A. Palmieri said in a statement. "Our new, improved site will allow everyone in the jewelry trade to fully understand the benefits of GCAL certification."

Among those benefits are certificate search-and-verification—which, according to GCAL, is not commonly available in the trade. It will allow retailers and other diamond sellers to easily access and verify certificate information for their inventory and for customers online. The system is meant to provide added accuracy, integrity and security in the process.

The new site also has a section on GCAL's Zero Tolerance Consumer Grading Guarantee, offered on diamond-grading certificates. It ensures the accuracy of the cut, color, clarity and carat weight assigned to GCAL-certified diamonds. At any time during the two years following certification, a consumer may submit the diamond to GCAL. If the diamond does not meet the quality rating of the original certificate, GCAL will reimburse the customer the difference in retail market value between a diamond with the original weight and quality and the newly established weight or quality.

Another feature of the site is an online video of the lab's processes. The major steps in GCAL's diamond grading, certification and verification process are shown in brief segments. There are 10 videos showing things such as the Gemprint diamond and identification system, clarity grading, color grading and quality assurance. GCAL also has a DVD on its lab processes that is available for free distribution to retailers to use in their stores.

The site also includes sections highlighting its product and services such as the Five Star Diamond Certificate, the Ideal Cut Certificate and the Source Veritas Passport.
