Oppenheimer to present keynote at CIBJO Congress

Milan, Italy—De Beers Group Chairman Nicholas Oppenheimer will be the keynote speaker at the upcoming 2007 CIBJO Congress.

The event is scheduled from March 12-15 at the Cape Town International Convention Centre in Cape Town, South Africa.

CIBJO President Gaetano Cavalieri was pleased to announce Oppenheimer's participation in the congress.

"Over the years, Mr. Oppenheimer has been very outspoken about the absolute need for social and corporate responsibility in the diamond industry in particular and in the jewelry industry at large," he said in a statement.

He added that the De Beers exec's keynote will set the tone for the event, with its overall theme of "Delivering a Responsible, Sustainable and Profitable Global Jewellery Industry."

World Diamond Council Eli Izhakoff is also speaking at the event, during the opening session.

Cavalieri noted Izhakoff's leadership role in preparing the diamond industry for the release of Blood Diamond.
