Tel Aviv, Israel—The Israel Diamond Institute (IDI) group of companies has established an award to honor heads of state and ministers who promote cooperation between their countries and the Israeli diamond industry.

The first recipients recognized as part of the IDI League of Honor are leaders from Bostwana, Sierra Leone, Namibia and Liberia, in keeping with Israel's increased focus on relations with African countries.

The first award recipients are: Sierra Leone Vice President Samuel Sam-Somana, Bostwana Minister of Minerals, Energy and Water Resources Ponatshego Kedikilwe, Namibia Minster of Mines and Energy Erkki Nghimtina and Liberia Minister of Lands, Mines and Energy Dr. Eugene Shannon.

The recipients were recognized on Feb. 11 during the Third International Rough Diamond Conference gala dinner in Tel Aviv. Bostwana Chief Minerals Officer Mooketsi W. Jongman accepted the award for Kedikilwe, and Namibian Diamond Commissioner Kennedy Hamutenya accepted the award for Nghimtina.

The focus of much of the conference, held at the Dan Panorama Hotel in Tel Aviv from Feb. 11-12, was the recent changes to the rough-diamond supply chain.
