Weddingchannel.com launches pre-engagement guide

November 27, 2007

Los Angeles—Wedding and gift registry Web site Weddingchannel.com has launched a complete pre-engagement guide, including a ring-trend gallery and proposal planning tips.

For future brides, it's all about creating the illusion of a luxe, high-priced engagement ring, says the site, which can be achieved with cultured diamonds, a "double-duty" ring or a "double halo" setting.

Double-duty rings, which showcase three rows of round- and radiant-cut diamonds across a wide band, can serve as both engagement rings and wedding bands, thus cutting down on cost.

Another alternative to reducing prices is to purchase a "copycat" ring: Brides-to-be can bring a photo of their dream ring to a jeweler and have him replicate it at a more affordable price.

Cultured diamonds, which possess the same physical and chemical properties as natural diamonds, also offer lower price points because they are created in a laboratory, says the site.

The site also suggests creating a halo effect around the center stone of the ring with two "halos" of micro pavé diamonds in a bezel setting, thus creating the illusion of a larger stone.

Finally, Weddingchannel.com suggests the purchase of signature designer rings such as Tiffany and Co.'s Novo diamond.

For proposal help, WeddingChannel.com's senior editor Marilyn Oliveira advises hiring a proposal planner, which can be found in the site's Local Vendors section. She also suggests the assistance of the "proposal paparazzi," which allows the proposal to be chronicled through pictures.

Lastly, Oliveira suggests going on a getaway to destinations such as the Caribbean, France, Hawaii, Italy or Mexico to pop the question.
