Ramat Gan, Israel--The Israeli Diamond Institute Group of Companies (IDI) has launched the first stage of a strategic initiative that aims to provide marketing support to diamond manufacturers and exporters.

According to a release issued by the organization, IDI Chairman Moti Ganz said the program was created in response to the international economic crisis that has so greatly impacted the diamond industry.

"We want to push forward aggressively and to introduce the Israeli industry to new and creative marketing tools," he said. "We are now launching the first stage and additional elements of the program will be announced later in the year."

The first stage of the program includes:

--Israeli Diamond Industry news service: The IDI will write and distribute press releases about new developments at individual diamond companies at no charge.

--Internet marketing and e-commerce: The IDI will organize a series of online seminars for Israeli diamantaires to teach them about Internet marketing and e-commerce, and will provide free consulting for diamantaires who wish to create a Web site or improve an existing site.

--Social networking marketing: The IDI will assist diamantaires in learning how to take advantage of the marketing opportunities available with social networking sites.

--Trade show support: The IDI is expanding its Israeli Diamond Pavilions at major trade shows to include meeting space where non-exhibiting Israeli diamantaires can meet with clients.

--VIP service to buyers: This service gives Israeli diamond companies the ability to lure business to Israel by offering foreign buyers a free hotel night stay at the Sheraton City Tower Hotel for every day spent on the Israel Diamond Exchange trading floor, up to a total of four nights.

Ganz and IDI Managing Director Eli Avidar are optimistic that this multi-pronged initiative will help boost business for Israeli diamantaires.

"It was clear to us that we needed to act swiftly and creatively in order to boost marketing efforts. The full program is very comprehensive and contains elements never implemented before in our industry," Avidar said. "Additional stages of the program will be launched at Basel and JCK Las Vegas."
