High-end retailers offer new diamond cuts, collections

New York—With the idea of branding fully coming of age, retailers De Beers LV and H. Stern both announced the launch of new diamond-centric collections.

Following on the success of earlier collections such as "Talisman," De Beers LV launched "The Secrets of the Rose," a new diamond-jewelry collection that unifies gothic and Art Nouveau styles, and is replete with "soft feminine curves, untamed thorns and hidden messages," the retailer says. An example: An infinity bracelet spells out "forever" in diamonds.

The line includes pendants, rings, bracelets, earrings and necklaces in combinations of white gold, rose gold and platinum, set with white diamonds. The collection, priced from $750 to $1.2 million, is sold exclusively at De Beers LV stores in New York and in Beverly Hills, Calif.
H. Stern's "Stern Star" diamond cut has 20 internal facets rather than the traditional 16, and features the brand's star symbol.

Jeweler H. Stern introduced both a new collection and a diamond cut, called the "Stern Star." Three years in the making, the cut represents the visual signature of the company. It features the design of a star—the symbol of the brand—created by the facets at the top and at the base of each stone.

The diamond's shape is a blend of forms found in naturally shaped pebbles, which, the company says, makes it the first organic diamond created by a jeweler.

Compared with the traditional round-brilliant cut, where the lower part of the stone reflects off 16 facets, the Stern Star has 20 internal facets and a wider table surface. The results are "exceptional, almost kaleidoscopic, hypnotic radiance," said Creative Director Roberto Stern in a statement.

The new cut comes three years after the company introduced a branded color of gold, "18K Noble Gold," a flesh-tone alloy that retains aspects of both yellow and white gold.

The two design developments come together in a new architecture-inspired Art Deco collection called Stern Star, a line of 21 one-of-a-kind diamond rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets featuring white diamonds with the new cut set in the 18K Noble Gold, with black diamonds for contrast. Prices range between $20,000 and $330,000.
