GIA launches online lab service

May 25, 2007

Carlsbad, Calif.—The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) has announced the launch of My Laboratory, a new online service that allows diamond and colored-stone customers secure access anytime to their GIA Laboratory accounts to check the current status of their items.

My Laboratory customers will be able to view items available for pick-up or shipping, print reports and see all items returned to them within two weeks. Diamond customers may view results or request additional services, including re-checks or inscriptions. Information on the new service is updated every 15 minutes.

"We hope this will be a valuable tool for customers that will help streamline and expedite their workflow," GIA Research and Laboratory Senior Vice President Tom Moses said in a statement. "We believe people will appreciate being able to monitor their items as they move through the GIA system via My Laboratory. We look forward to adding many more features in the coming months to further enhance this service."

The service, which launches on June 4, is secure and confidential, so that only the client or the client's designated company representatives can view, access or take action on items. Users must be current GIA Lab clients with a valid e-mail address.

To open an account, complete and submit the GIA Laboratory Online Services Application to the GIA Gemological Services Department via fax or mail. The fax number and address are provided on the application. Once the service is activated on June 4, the GIA will send each individual user an identification and password.

Customers with questions should contact their GIA Gemological Services Representative via e-mail at gsr@gia.edu, or call (212) 221-5858 ext. 3724 in New York, (760) 603-4500 in California.
