IADC offers retailers buying trips to India
February 22, 2007
Paso Robles, Calif.—With
India's leading role in today's diamond and jewelry industries, retailers are eager to go directly to the source. With that in mind, the
Indo Argyle Diamond Council (IADC) has announced two buying trips to India this year.
"As part of our IADC program, we have worked with and escorted many retailers to India to facilitate relationships between them and the best diamond cutters, diamond dealers and jewelry manufacturers India has to offer," Liz Chatelain, CEO of MVI Marketing Ltd., the IADC's parent company, said in a statement.
She added that since it launched 13 years ago, the organization has helped members and other jewelry manufacturers develop marketable 14-karat, 18-karat, platinum and diamond-fashion jewelry. India also plays a big role in the bridal market today, at all price levels.
"We had an instant feeling of confidence dealing with the manufacturers recommended by the IADC, and we didn't feel alone on the journey," said Scott Berg of Lee Michaels Fine Jewelers in Louisiana. "We have been to India twice in the past year, and we've made exceptional buys, far greater than we'd been making in the States."
Membership fees cover the IADC's management costs, so the organization doesn't charge a fee to retailers.
"Many mid-level and independent retailers had requested our help in organizing a trip to India so they may also buy from the best Indian manufacturers at the same great pricing offered to major retailers" IADC President Keith Dillmeier said.
He said he first visited the country in 1997 as a retailer. He saw the benefits of buying from Indian companies, either through direct-import or through their U.S. offices.
The IADC will make all the travel arrangements, appointments and business requirements necessary for the trips, scheduled for July and September.
"We will talk to every retailer coming on the trip to find out their particular needs and direct them to several companies that can service them," Dillmeier said.
The trip includes visits to the SEEZP area for finished jewelry and to the Opera House district in Mumbai for loose polished diamonds and colored stones, plus trips to New Delhi and the Taj Mahal.
The IADC will cover some of the trip costs. Retailers can customize their travel dates, which will affect the price of their trip.
