Las Vegas—American Gem Society (AGS) Laboratories has appointed Frank Dallahan as president and chief executive officer, effective July 15.

Dallahan had previously served as president and chief executive officer of Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America (MJSA).

"This is a new position created to bring AGS Laboratories to the next level," AGS Laboratories Board of Managers Chairman Clayton Bromberg said in a media release. "Frank's varied experience and his reputation made him an ideal candidate for this position. The AGS Laboratories has experienced dramatic growth over the past few years, and the Lab board believes there is a significant growth opportunity ahead. Frank's leadership skills and industry contacts will play an important role in achieving this growth scenario."

MJSA Chairman Alan Bell said: "We at MJSA would like to thank Frank for his significant contributions to the association. His long experience within the industry and his leadership in reshaping and unifying our brand has helped improve MJSA's position as the voice of jewelry manufacturers in this country."

Bell added that the MJSA board would begin the process of finding a replacement immediately.

The AGS Laboratories, established in 1996, is the only diamond-grading laboratory licensed to use the AGS Performance-Based Cut Grade System, the first-ever cut-grading system for fancy-shaped diamonds. The lab currently issues a cut grade on round-brilliant, princess- and emerald-cut diamonds. Other shapes are due to come in the near future.
