Rough diamond exporting, importing reports due

New York--Anyone who exported or imported rough diamonds in 2008 must file an annual report by April 1.

According to a release issued as a reminder by the Jewelers Vigilance Committee (JVC), importers and exporters must report the total of their imports or exports in any one of the following categories:

- 7102.19: Unsorted (gem and industrial) rough diamonds
- 7102.21: Sorted rough industrial diamonds
- 7102.31: Sorted rough gem diamonds

According to the release, the report must include the total number of carats imported or exported in each category, the total number of shipments in each category and information pertaining to the stockpile remaining unsold at the end of the reporting period for each category, including total carats and approximate total value.
 
Reports should be sent to the U.S. Department of State's Office of the Special Advisor for Conflict Diamonds via e-mail at uskimberleyprocess@state.gov.

Those needing to file a report are invited to use the template on the JVC's Web site, Jvclegal.org.
