Las Vegas--American Gem Society (AGS) Laboratories President and Chief Executive Officer Frank Dallahan has resigned, the Las Vegas-based organization announced on Friday.

His resignation is effective immediately.

Dallahan, who previously served as president and CEO of Manufacturing Jewelers and Suppliers of America, assumed his role at the lab in July 2007.

In the statement released on Friday, he called working at the lab a "challenging opportunity."

"I have enjoyed my association with the laboratory, its personnel and the members of the board. It has been a challenging opportunity and I believe the changes implemented in the past 20 months will prove to be very productive for the lab in the days ahead," he said.

Ronnie Cox, chairman of the AGS Laboratories Board of Managers and owner of John R. Cox and Sons jewelry stores in Texas, said Dallahan's experience in the industry benefited the lab.

"Frank's unique combination of leadership, industry experience and product innovations brought much to the lab," Cox said. "We wish Frank continued success in his next endeavor."

AGS Lab Chief Financial Officer Tom Kelly will assume the role of chief operating officer and will manage the lab alongside Executive Director Peter Yantzer and other key executives.

According to a spokeswoman, the lab has no immediate plans to fill the CEO role.

"This is the team responsible for the lab's growth and cutting-edge research and product development. AGS Laboratories clients will continue to receive the excellent customer service, responsiveness and product advantages to which they are accustomed," Cox said.
