GIA to extend lab services for Hong Kong show

Gears up for October Career Fair

August 14, 2009

Carlsbad, Calif.--The Gemological Institute of America (GIA) is sending a team of top gemological experts to Hong Kong to offer additional lab services ahead of the upcoming Hong Kong Jewellery and Gem Fair.

The team is slated to be in Hong Kong from Sept. 16-29, while the show is scheduled from Sept. 21-27, according to a press release.

During the two-week period, the GIA laboratory will provide services from its Hong Kong Laboratory Service Center to show attendees and vendors, as well as to the local trade and general public.

The gemologists will grade diamonds up to 9.99 carats and also will offer all colored-stone services, the release states.

Reports will be issued on a daily basis.

"We have supplied laboratory services at trade shows before, but this is the first time we are offering such services well before, during and after the show," said Tom Moses, senior vice president of GIA Laboratory and Research, in the release. "Providing these services prior to the show lets vendors get their items completed by GIA before the fair starts."

According to the release, appointments are not required to drop off or pick up items at the Laboratory Service Center, located at Room 1203, 12F, Aon China Building, 29 Queen's Road Central. Hours are Monday-Friday, from 9:00 a.m.-6:00 p.m. local time.

Items can also be submitted to the Malca-Amit show office at Asia World-Expo for transfer to the GIA from Sept. 21-25.

In addition, GIA's Jewelry Career Fair is scheduled for Oct. 16 at the organization's headquarters in Carlsbad, Calif.
