GemEx awards Fla. couple $10K prize

October 29, 2009
Shaun Fisher and Alex Esteves of Delray Beach, Fla., shot a "silent" movie that was enough to win over the judges in GemEx Systems Inc.'s $10,000 "Rock the Recession, Pop the Question" digital video contest.

Delray Beach, Fla.--A Florida couple recently won an engagement video contest that includes $10,000 in prizes without even saying a word.

GemEx Systems Inc. recently announced via a news release that Shaun Fisher and Alex Esteves of Delray Beach, Fla., are the winners of the GemEx national $10,000 digital video contest, "Rock the Recession, Pop the Question."

Fischer and Esteves nabbed the top prize for telling the story of their relationship in a black-and-white video that echoed the silent films of the 1920s, complete with a low-resolution grainy effect, silent movie captions and even a role for their Dalmatian, Marty.

"We have been together for six years, and were ready to get married, but money was tight," Fisher said in the release. "When we heard about the contest, we knew we could come up with a great way to tell our story on video."

Thousands of people viewed and voted on all the videos uploaded for the contest, and a panel of judges then viewed the five videos that garnered the highest number of votes.

As the winners, GemEx will fly the couple to New York City for a weekend at the Loews Regency Hotel on Park Avenue and will award the couple a one-carat diamond engagement ring from GemEx Chief Executive Officer Randall Wagner.

"We're thrilled that we were able to help Shaun and Alex live out their dream of being engaged," Wagner said in the release. "Despite the lagging economy, this couple now has everything they need to start planning their future together--a beautiful ring, gifts for the wedding party and great advice about rehearsal dinners, gift registries and planning and budgeting for the wedding."

The couple's New York City weekend also will include dinner at The Palm restaurant, a meeting with one of America's foremost wedding planners Sharon Naylor, a private, VIP appointment with a Bloomingdale's Personal Wedding Registry consultant and a $500 gift certificate for GroomsOnline.com.
