Diamond supplier Morris Green, wife found dead

October 30, 2009

New York--Diamond supplier Morris Green and his wife, Charlotte Green, were found dead in their home on Wednesday, victims of what police say is an apparent murder-suicide, media accounts say.

News reports say Morris Green, 76, had been shot in the chest, while his 78-year-old wife had been shot in the head at their home in Queens, N.Y. Police did not believe foul play was involved, according to a report in Newsday.

A supplier with Green Brothers, Green had worked in a family business that has been operating in New York City for more than six decades.

"Morris' legacy is he was loved by many, as well as having had a positive influence on those whose paths he crossed," the Independent Jewelers Organization (IJO) said in a media release.  "He will be sadly missed, and our hearts go out to the family."

On Feb. 20, 2000, IJO presented Green with its first-ever Ultimate Appreciation Award, recognizing the way Green gave unselfishly and consistently, above and beyond all expectation, with no thought for personal gain.

Green was the winner of an Academy Award for a medical documentary he filmed in the 1950s. He was also an avid golfer, expert photographer, favorite dance partner and a compassionate individual who was a friend to a countless number of individuals, IJO said.

The Greens are survived by three grown children.

Services will be held at 1 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 1, at Schwartz Brothers-Jeffer Memorial Chapels in Forest Hills, N.Y. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the nonprofit organization Chesed Shel Emes, which prepares members of the Jewish community for burial according to Orthodox tradition, are appreciated, according to the IJO release. Contributions can be sent to Chesed Shel Emes at 1224 52nd St., Brooklyn, NY 11219.

Condolence notes for the family can be sent c/o: Green Bros., 580 Fifth Ave., Ste. 715A, New York, NY 10036.
