Montblanc to present the 24 Hour Plays

September 29, 2009

New York--Montblanc is revving up to present the 9th annual production of The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway, a by-the-name event in which six new plays and musical acts will be written, rehearsed and performed before a live audience, all within the span of 24 hours.

The 2009 production marks the third year of Montblanc's partnership with the project and with the program's supporting company, Urban Arts Partnership. All proceeds from the event will benefit the latter, a not-for-profit organization that brings arts educational programs into New York City public school classrooms.

This year's company members include a wide variety of talent, including actors Amber Tamblyn, David Cross, Elijah Wood and Rosie Perez; playwrights Warren Leight, David Lindsay-Abaire and Nathan Jackson; and musical guest A Camp, composed of Nina Persson and Nathan Larson.

The 24 Hour Plays On Broadway will begin on Sunday, Nov. 8, with a group of six writers, six directors, 24 actors, two musical guests and a production crew. The casts and crews will be briefed, and each writer is tasked with composing a 10-minute play by 7:00 a.m. on the following morning. At that time, directors will return to read and select their piece. The casts will meet for the first time at 8:00 a.m., will rehearse over the next 12 hours, and at 8:00 p.m., will perform before a live audience.

During the event, Montblanc will also be celebrating the release of the Montblanc Special Edition Ingrid Bergman writing instrument. Three editions have been created in honor of the legendary actress. Each is adorned with an amethyst, a stone Montblanc says symbolizes attributes associated with Bergman, including calmness, clarity and tolerance.

"Montblanc is proud to once again join The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway and are 100 percent committed to long-term support of arts programs as we deem the assistance that Urban Arts Partnership provides to students very critical in today's society," Montblanc North America President and Chief Executive Officer Jan-Patrick Schmitz said in a media release.

The 24 Hour Plays on Broadway will take place on Monday, Nov. 9, at the American Airlines Theater on West 42nd Street. Tickets ($295 for the orchestra and $195 for the mezzanine) will be available to the general public beginning on Oct. 14 by calling (212) 868-4444 or online at SmartTix.com.
