Stuller to distribute Demika self-locking clasp

Program offers retail jewelers a growing profit, repair center

May 18, 2009

New York--Jewelry supplier Stuller Inc. will now distribute Demika's new, self-locking jewelry clasp and retail display kits to its account base of 40,000 retail jewelers in North America and worldwide.

Designed for women who have difficulty fastening necklaces and bracelets, Demika's self-locking clasp operation is simple: When the two ends of a necklace or bracelet are brought closely together, magnets in the clasp attract and a safety catch locks immediately.

Stuller will offer jewelers an assortment of Demika self-locking clasps in a unique, interactive display featuring a chain and clasp that enables customers to experience how fast and easy it is to fasten the new Demika clasp. The retail display kit contains 34 self-locking clasps in sterling silver, vermeil, gold finish and silver finish, as well an option to purchase gold clasps.

Clasps can be attached by the customer or installed professionally by the jeweler.

According to Stuller Vice President of Findings Elizabeth Brehmer, the Demika clasp provides retail jewelers with a new profit center and source of increased customer visits.

"Jewelers can invite their customers to bring in necklaces and bracelets that they have difficulty fastening and get a Demika clasp that will solve their problem," she said in a media release.

Internationally recognized sculptor and designer Esther Fuhrman created and patented the first Demika clasp after she put an ordinary magnetic clasp on a valuable necklace and lost it when the clasp came apart. She has since been issued three clasp patents with additional patents pending.

Stuller will introduce the new, self-locking jewelry clasp at the JCK Show in Las Vegas, from May 30-June 2.
