New York--Platinum Guild International (PGI-USA) is setting designers to the Platinum Couture Style Challenge once again this year, a showcase that provides an opportunity for designers and manufacturers exhibiting at the Las Vegas Couture show to draw attention to their most distinguished platinum pieces.

The Challenge made its debut at the Couture show last year, and this year's competition will take place over the first three days of the May 28-June 2 show, to be held at the Wynn Las Vegas.

All Couture show designers are welcome to participate and may enter pieces into five different categories: Platinum Couture Red Carpet, Platinum Couture Luxury for Everyday, Platinum Couture Colors, Platinum Couture Bridal Atelier and Platinum Couture Bridal Boutique.

The Red Carpet and Bridal Atelier categories will both feature high-end platinum jewelry, while the Luxury for Everyday and Bridal Boutique categories will feature designs at entry-level price points up to a suggested retail price of $5,000. The Couture Colors category, open to both high-end and entry-level pieces, will highlight platinum set with colored gemstones.

In time for the opening day of Couture, participating manufacturers will receive exclusive Platinum Couture Style Challenge signage to display in order to highlight the contest piece or pieces in their salon window.

Editors from top fashion and lifestyle publications as well as industry trade editors will serve as judges for this year's contest. One winner will be singled out in each of the five categories, and winners will be announced and awarded with trophies on Sunday, May 31.

PGI-USA will publicize winners to both the consumer and trade press, and each category winner will be highlighted in at least two of PGI's consumer media programs in 2009.

"After the success of last year's competition, we're looking forward to even more involvement this year," PGI Senior Vice President Jenny Luker said in a media release. "PGI designed this contest to celebrate distinguished platinum designs and provide greater visibility to these talented jewelry designers. We encourage exhibitors to submit their best platinum pieces and take part of this great opportunity."
