Sotheby's to conduct auctions for charity

New York—Proceeds from the sale of several jewels in Sotheby's upcoming Magnificent Jewels auction on April 24 will benefit charitable organizations.

Sales of jewelry from the estate of philanthropist Nell Singer will benefit the Herbert and Nell Singer Foundation, which supports medical research and civic causes including the New School for Social Research, the Beth Israel Medical Center and Rockefeller University.

A highlight of this collection is a Van Cleef and Arpels emerald-cut diamond ring featuring a 16.98-carat D-color VVS1 potentially flawless diamond, estimated at $900,000 to $1 million.

Sales of jewelry from the Koenig Foundation will benefit the Erich and Della Koenig Foundation, which supports benevolent scientific, literary and educational causes.

Among the highlights of this sale is an emerald and diamond ring by Harry Winston with an emerald-cut Colombian emerald weighting 29.36 carats and estimated at $350,000 to $450,000.

In addition, Sotheby's will offer for sale a diamond-pendant necklace by Alexandra Reza, estimated at $700,000 to $1 million, to benefit an unnamed charitable organization.

Highlights from the sale will go on an international tour through Dubai, United Arab Emirates; Geneva; Hong Kong; Los Angeles; Santa Barbara, Calif.; and San Francisco prior to the sale.
