The Lester and Sue Smith Gem Vault at the Houston Museum of Natural Science will present “Verdura: The Life and Work of a Master Jeweler.” The exhibition of jewelry from a brand adored by Hollywood and high society opens November 16 and continues through February 7, 2008.

Featured pieces include: a favorite of Joan Crawford, the “Garbo-watch”; Coco Chanel’s original Maltese Cross cuffs; the Wrapped Heart brooch; Clare Boothe Luce’s Tragedy and Comedy Mask brooch; and the company’s famous shell brooch. The jewels will be floating in darkness inside the Smith Gem Vault, which opened in 2005 and will be celebrating its two-year anniversary.
