Revere Academy offers East Coast 'jewelry camp'

San Francisco—The Revere Academy, a professional jewelry school located in downtown San Francisco, will bring a little bit of the West Coast to the East this fall when it presents six days of jewelry-making workshops in the mountains of North Carolina.

The academy will join together with the Florida Society of Goldsmiths to teach classes covering the same material, using the same tools and equipment, and presented by the same professional instructors as those in San Francisco.

Students will have the opportunity to choose two classes from subjects as varied as fabrication, stone setting, granulation, Mokume-gane metal techniques, clasps and design. Participants who complete the program will receive a Revere Academy certificate for each class, and classes are applicable to the California state requirements for the Jewelry Technician and Graduate Jeweler diplomas.

The program, which the academy says functions similarly to a "jewelry camp" for adults, will be held from Oct. 29-Nov. 5 at the Wildacres Retreat in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina, close to the arts and crafts center of Asheville. The program is designed to enhance each student's skills in a serene environment, and students will be housed in wood and stone cabins.

The cost of the program is $995, which covers tuition for two classes, plus 20 meals and double occupancy lodging for seven nights. Members of the Florida Society of Goldsmiths can register for a reduced fee of $950.
