New date for Hip Hop's Crown Jewels auction

New York--To accommodate strong interest and consign additional pieces, auction house Phillips de Pury Co. has announced it is rescheduling its Hip Hop's Crown Jewels auction, originally scheduled for next month.

The contemporary jewelry sale will now take place on March 5, 2009, coinciding with one of New York City's biggest art shows, the Armory Show.

The auction will be the first-ever of its kind, pioneering a new collecting category of historic hip-hop jewelry, the auction house says.

Around 50 iconic pieces worn by some of hip-hop's biggest stars, including 50 Cent, Kanye West, Pharrell Williams, the late Notorious B.I.G. and Tupac Shakur, will be featured.

The new sale date will allow Phillips de Pury to accommodate the increased demand from consigners and buyers who wish to participate in the sale.

"We have determined that there is more significant property to be consigned, and that to enlarge the sale, we will increase the offering that is in great demand," Phillips de Pury Chairman Simon de Pury said in a media release. "As an art company that is dedicated to presenting the best of contemporary culture, Phillips de Pury Co. is thrilled that the reception has been so positive."
