Van Cleef sees gold shine through economic clouds

Luxury jeweler Van Cleef told Reuters that strong gold prices will “keep the intrinsic value of jewelry high,” World Gold Council reported.

Stanislas De Quercize, president of the Paris-based jeweler, believes that consumers regard high-end jewelry as “a form of economic protection.” Therefore, the market will “weather” the U.S. recession.

The jeweler currently has plans to double the size of its boutiques in Beijing and Shanghai in response to the growing demand in China.
