WJA to honor Sybil Yurman, Steven Kaiser
December 06, 2007
New York—The Women's Jewelry Association (WJA) will honor both Sybil Yurman of David Yurman and Steven Kaiser of Kaiser Time at its 25th annual Awards for Excellence in 2008. Yurman, president and chief marketing officer of David Yurman, will be named the 2008 Hall of Fame Lifetime Achievement honoree, and Steven Kaiser, president and chief executive officer of Kaiser Time, will receive the Ben Kaiser Award. Yurman, wife and partner of jewelry designer David Yurman, has been instrumental in the design house's success since its inception in 1979, including its advertising campaigns featuring black-and-white images of David Yurman designs on fashion icons such as Kate Moss, Amber Valetta, Naomi Watts and Natalia Vodianova. "Sybil Yurman is a true muse, partner and businesswoman," David Yurman said in a media release. "Sculptors tend to focus on form. She opened my eyes to a wider creative process." In 2001, the couple established their namesake Humanitarian and Arts Foundation as a means to provide significant support to various organizations such as YouthAIDS and the Breast Cancer Research Foundation. Yurman says she's thrilled to accept this award from her WJA sisters. "The WJA has nurtured the careers of hundreds of women through its many activities, educational conferences, scholarship programs and networking opportunities," she said in a media release. "The jewelry industry would not be the same without this important organization." Steven Kaiser has been an executive in the watch and jewelry industry for more than 25 years. He was president and CEO of Baume and Mercier, executive shareholder of Benedom Inc. (a subsidiary of luxury brand LVMH Moet Hennessy Louis Vuitton) and founder of Kaiser Time Inc., a full-service consulting and business development, executive recruiting and mergers and acquisitions firm. | | Steven Kaiser, president and chief executive officer of Kaiser Time. | "I'm honored to receive this special WJA award that recognized my father," Kaiser said in a media release. "He saw the potential of WJA from its infancy and encouraged me to join in 1983. I've watched it evolve into one of the most dynamic and important organizations, and I'm proud to be part of it." The 2008 Awards for Excellence gala, which will be held in New York City on July 27, 2008, is being redesigned in honor of the WJA's 25th anniversary, according to dinner co-chairs Mindy Fielman of Hearts On Fire and Lisa Cochin of the Diamond Promotion Service. "Only two awards will be given this year," Cochin said in a media release. "We will honor all of our past presidents and recipients of the Hall of Fame and Ben Kaiser Awards in a gala event that will celebrate the extraordinary leadership that has made WJA such a vibrant organization, as well as the new initiatives that will shape it for tomorrow." The WJA's Metropolitan Chapter, representing the New York City tri-state area, will officially kickoff the association's 25th anniversary on Jan. 22. It will host a member event at Gracie Mansion in Manhattan, the official residence of the mayor of New York City. Peggy Kirby, one of the original founders of the national organization and the first recipient of the Hall of Fame Award, will be recognized. In addition, WJA members will have the opportunity to tour the historic mansion. Other chapter and national events planned for the anniversary year will be announced soon.
