Geneva-Sotheby's will host its Magnificent Jewels auction in Geneva next month, with a number of storied jewelry pieces formerly owned by royalty also on offer in a special "Noble Jewels" sale.

The top two lots in the Noble Jewels auction, which celebrates the 20th anniversary of the sale of the Duchess of Windsor's jewelry collection, are two stones called the "Donnersmarck Diamonds," which Sotheby's characterizes as exceptional yellow stones.

One stone is a pear-shaped diamond weighing 82.48 carats, and the other is a cushion-shaped diamond weighing 102.54 carats. Sotheby's says the stones are each estimated at $1.5 million to $2 million, and were originally owned by La Païva, the Moscow-born, 19th century Parisian courtesan.

The sale will also feature a diamond tiara from the early 20th century, estimated at $64,000 to $104,000. Sotheby's says the tiara comes from the collection of Count Henckel von Donnersmarck. If the Donnersmarck name sounds familiar, it may be because a younger member of the family, Count Florian Henckel von Donnersmarck, won a best foreign language film Academy Award earlier this year for The Lives of Others.

The Magnificent Jewels sale will take place May 17 at Geneva's Beau-Rivage Hotel.
