JIC names David Bouffard chair

New York—The Jewelry Information Center (JIC) has elected David Bouffard of Sterling Jewelers as chair, effective July 28.

Bouffard succeeds Myriam Gumuchian, who served as JIC chair from 2006-2008.

Bouffard joined Sterling Jewelers in 1981 in field operations. In his 27-year career with the company, he has been promoted to a number of management positions within the merchandising, advertising and marketing departments. Most recently, he served as vice president of public relations.

He is also accredited in public relations (APR) and is a Gemological Institute of America Graduate Gemologist.

The JIC has also elected the following officers for the 2008-2010 term: Martin Gatins of Cartier, vice chair; Hank Siegel of Hamilton Co. Jewelers, secretary/treasurer; and Myriam Gumuchian of Gumuchian as immediate past chair.

The JIC has also elected the following new board members for the 2008-2010 term: Andrew Block of Tourneau, David Bonaparte of JCK Group, Chris Casey of The Nielsen Companies, Liz Chatelain of MVI Marketing, Mindy Grimes of John Hardy, and Robert May of Natural Color Diamond Association.

"On behalf of the board, I'd like to thank Myriam for her leadership over the last two years, and am proud to continue the legacy of our predecessors in JIC's 62nd year serving as the jewelry industry's public relations arm," Bouffard said in a media release issued on Friday. "I look forward to focusing on the organization's mission with the support of the other elected officers, our current board members, and would also especially like to welcome our new directors."

JIC directors serve two-year terms to help increase industry awareness for the organization and to increase membership. They also assist with the JIC's mission that is, in part, to help stimulate consumer desire for jewelry products with creative and timely promotions.
