Marquise diamond top lot for Christie's Hong Kong

Hong Kong—Nine lots sold for more than $1 million each at Christie's Magnificent Jewellery and Jadeite Jewellery auction held on Wednesday in Hong Kong.

The top lot was a marquise-cut, D-color, IF-clarity diamond of 13.96 carats, which sold to a European buyer for more than $1.58 million, or $113,500 per carat, the auction house said in a release. The second highest seller was a pear-shaped fancy diamond that is purplish-pink in color and of IF-clarity, weighing 6.88 carats, which sold for $1.38 million, or $200,750 per carat, to an Asian buyer. Also on the list of top lots was a suite of jadeite and diamond jewelry, which sold for $1.03 million to an Asian buyer.

The top lot at Christie's auction was this 13.96-carat marquise-cut, D-color, IF-clarity diamond, which sold for $1.58 million.
"Nine lots sold for over $1 million [in U.S. dollars] in a sale that demonstrates once again the great strength of the jewelry market and, in particular, the continued demand for rare white and colored diamonds," said Vickie Sek, director of Christie's Asia's Jewellery and Jadeite department. "Buying was predominately Asian with strong competition from private collectors in China, Russia and the Middle East."

Christie's next big auction will be held at Christie's London on June 13, highlighted by jewels from the collection of Princess Maria Gabriella of Savoy.
