Bohemian looks, yellow gold hot for summer

New York--The summer season is upon us, and as seen on the runways of the Spring 2009 fashion collections, it's a prime time to be playful with jewelry as hits for the season include big, bright statement necklaces, chunky cuffs, stacked bangles and a plethora of yellow gold.

Fashion designers showed a penchant for mixing and matching, including pairing skirt and blouse separates of contrasting prints, and sending easy-to-wear bohemian shifts down the runway, including airy dresses that fall to the ankle and feature everything from floral designs to striped and spotted animal motifs.

Designers answered the accessorizing question by saying that more is more, piling on the jewelry in a bohemian throw-down of designs of a crafty, organic bent. Among the materials to expect are vibrant, earthy beads, sharkskin, shells, wood and cloth accentuating necklaces and cuffs.

As for the gold factor, big, bold earrings, including oversized yellow gold disks and large hoops, will see their day in the sun, as will heavily textured designs.

But not to worry that the fashions for the season are too easy-breezy. Monochrome geometric prints, especially in black and white, provided a chic alternative. And the perfect accessories are the most sophisticated of jewelry offerings: diamonds.
