Jacob the Jeweler sues rap star Wyclef Jean

New York—Famed jeweler to the stars Jacob Arabov is suing rapper Wycelf Jean for more than $300,000 in unpaid jewelry bills, the Associated Press and various news sources report.

In court papers filed in Manhattan Supreme Court on Tuesday, Jacob and Co. Watches Inc., the company founded by Arabov, who is known in the celebrity world as "Jacob the Jeweler," claims that Jean owes the company $319,680, an amount that includes a $225,000 Chopard watch and a $12,000 diamond Jesus head, various news sources report.

The suit claims that Jean bought a total of $765,100 in merchandise from Jacob the Jeweler between March 2002-January 2006, yet still owes the company money, despite "repeated demands for payment."

Jean is best known as the frontman for the 1990s rap group The Fugees but also has experience as a solo artist, guitarist and producer.

As this lawsuit winds its way through the court system, Arabov is dealing with some legal issues of his own.

Arabov, who gained fame for providing "bling" jewelry and watches to stars such as Madonna, Elton John and U2's Bono, was sentenced in June to 2.5 years in federal prison for lying to investigators on a multi-state drug ring.
